LUDHIANA: In a step towards green Ludhiana, deputy commissioner Rahul Tiwari, police commissioner Ishwar Singh and municipal commissioner AK Sinha have joined hands to strengthen the plantation drive started by different branches of the district administration. The officials have also asked people to ‘go green'.
Sources said the three commissioners held a meeting to review the plantation drives of different branches of the administration at Satluj Club on Saturday.
During the meeting, the officials discussed plans to strengthen the plantation drive. On the occasion, the officials also planted saplings at Satluj Club and in the Focal Point area.
Talking to TOI, DC Rahul Tiwari announced that the city would soon have 5 lakh more plants. He said, "Already 5 lakhs saplings have been planted as part of the plantation drive and another 5 lakh would be planted soon."
"With the help of block-level officers, more than 4 lakh trees have been planted in rural Ludhiana," he added.
The DC further said, "With the help of education department, students will be encouraged to plant saplings. I appeal to people of the city to plant more and more trees."
Municipal commissioner AK Sinha said, "The civic body has already planted 26,000 saplings in its limits and 17,000 more are ready to be planted. We want to ensure green cover in our city."
Police commissioner Ishwar Singh also appealed to city residents to plant more and more trees. He advised people to gift each other plants.
He said, "If you want to honour someone, please honour with a plant. It will be a life-long gift. Also we should start gifting plants on occasions like birthdays and other celebrations."
